New study from Egypt suggests PRP Platelet Rich Plasma is effective for heel pain (Plantar Fasciitis). In a recent publication from Arch Orthop Trauma Surgery, 25 patients were evaluate following PRP injection. 88 % of the treated patients were completely satisfied. Follow up ultrasound exams demonstrated improved tissue healing as well. While the study is limited in size & was not controlled with a placebo it serves as a foundation for other more robust studies to follow. We have been treating heel pain/plantar fasciitis for years with similar findings. We generally reserve this therapy after patients have failed conservative measures first like Physical therapy, orthotics/bracing, medications or cortisone etc.
