A Baker’s cyst is also known as a popliteal cyst or a bulge-knee. Characterized by a buildup of joint fluid that forms a swelling behind the knee, it has numerous potential causes, such as:

- Repetitive stress
Symptoms of Baker’s Cyst
Also known as a popliteal cyst, a Baker’s cyst is a fluid-filled lump or swelling behind the knee. Symptoms can include:
- Painless or painful swelling
- A feeling of fullness or a lump in the knee
- Stiffness or tightness
- Decreased range of motion
- Occasional clicking or locking in the knee joint
- Symptoms that worsen after activity or standing for a long time
Diagnosing Baker’s Cyst
The Orthohealing Center is committed to providing patients with a conclusive diagnosis of their respective conditions or injuries. To do this, an initial physical and verbal intake will be conducted. During this process, patients are asked how the injury was sustained and about the severity, duration, and frequency of symptoms. The affected region is examined for tender areas / pain, reflexes, strength, and range of motion. Our physicians frequently order advanced imaging studies such as MRI or ultrasound to assess baseline status and monitor treatment results.
